JOB SUMMARY:
Assists the Managing Law Clerk Supervisor with all department functions. Maintains databases and the docketing and case calendaring program, serves and files legal papers, and retrieves documents from court files. Performs case research and reviews court websites to maintain compliance with federal, state, and local rules and statutes.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
· Assists the Managing Law Clerk Supervisor with all department functions.
· Assists with docketing and calendaring of case events into the Pro Law database and weekly distribution of litigation calendars.
· Monitors case docket sheets of all active litigation matters and retrieves case dockets upon request.
· Handles electronic filing of case documents and/or hand delivery of filings to state and federal courts and governmental agencies in surrounding jurisdictions.
· Assists attorneys with court admissions requests.
· Reviews court websites, monitors for changes, updates court rules, statutes, and forms to ensure compliance with federal, state, and local rules and statutes.
· Performs case research using Pacer, Courtlink, Westlaw and other internet resources.
· Assists with maintaining additional court databases (e.g., Attorney Court, ECF, sample pleadings).
· Coordinates service of process and court reporter requests.
· Processes vendor invoices and maintains department files.
· Performs other related duties as assigned.
ESSENTIAL KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES, AND OTHER JOB-RELATED COMPETENCIES
· Demonstrated proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (e.g., Word, PowerPoint, Excel) with ability to learn additional software (e.g., Pacer, DataCase, Courtlink, Westlaw, Concordance)
· Ability to learn and maintain databases (e.g., ProLaw, Attorney Court, ECF)
· Working knowledge of case calendaring and docketing practices.
· Working knowledge of or ability to learn federal and state rules of practice and procedure
· Working knowledge of or ability to learn electronic filing requirements
· Ability to read, interpret, and follow instructions
· Ability to communicate effectively and to deal courteously with others
· Ability to work well under pressure and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment
· Ability to handle sensitive and confidential matters
· Ability to pay attention to detail
· Ability to organize and prioritize assignments
· Ability to lift and transport boxes (25 lb minimum)
· Flexibility to adjust hours and work overtime to meet operating needs
EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:
· College degree preferred. High school diploma or equivalent required.
· Minimum of three years of docketing or related experience.
